Hello everyone, my name is now Rui. It means regal in Japanese. I’m an 8 month old black and tan female Shiba Inu! DC SIR was notified that I was in danger at my current home and needed immediate rescue. So they got a volunteer to drive all day the next day to pick me up! Unfortunately, I was in a collar and escaped my transport during transfer. I was pretty scared and wouldn’t let anyone come near me. Thankfully, DC SIR has awesome volunteers! They had so many fans contact them with kind words and helpful searches. Two days later, a DC SIR fan and fellow Shiba Inu parent was able to get me because he has a Shiba Inu and knew he needed to be quiet and patient to catch me. Plus he had chicken!Let me tell you a little bit about myself. DC SIR was told some conflicting information about my personality so they don’t want to say too much until they really get to know me but this is what they can tell you so far: I am very friendly with people and will give kisses to those that gain my trust. I even hung out with a couple cats and thought they were cool. I used to live with other dogs but I didn’t get along with everyone so DC SIR will fill you in on my behavior with other dogs. I don’t know how to walk on a leash well and need to learn basic commands but DC SIR said this is easy to teach a young dog so I’ll be showing off my pawsome new skills at and an adoption event soon. My transporters say I smell like poop but there are just so many smelly things to roll around in when out on my adventures! I haven’t had any vetting so I’ve got a long day next week: spay, vaccinations, bloodwork, 4DX test, microchip, wellness check and stuff. I am supposed to get a bath and my nails trimmed when I get to Shiba HQ so check in to see how that goes!Location: Local: MD/VA/DCDogs Some - must meetCats: Some -must meetKids: No childrenALL dogs under 1yr old require a force-free training contract with a DC SIR approved trainer.Rui can be reactive with some dogs but is easily redirected. If going to a multiple dog home there are several requirements 1. Adopters must be dog savvy and prove knowledge of canine body language and reward-based training. 2. If a multi-dog home, adopter must have friendly dog(s) (not reactive dogs/resource-guarders, etc).Rui is sweet and gentle with people she knows and is a bit timid by strangers but she has been getting a lot of positive experiences meeting new people so we expect her confidence to grow with the right home!Follow Rui's progress on Facebook in her album!
