Hi, I’m Aspen, a 3-year-old red Shiba Inu girl, and I’m so happy to be starting my next chapter! I came to DC Shiba Inu Rescue as part of the second group of 20 Shibas rescued in the #60ShibasRescue effort. My foster family named me Aspen after the aspen tree, which represents strength, adaptability, and flourishing through change. They thought those qualities were perfect for me! From the moment I got in the car, I was ready to see what this new life was all about. I was very curious during my 2.5-hour ride home, looking out the windows and even standing on the center console so I could see through the front windshield. I even started gently pawing at my foster human’s shoulder to ask for pets! I’m a very affectionate girl and absolutely love attention from my people. I enjoy being petted, picked up, getting belly rubs, cuddling, and being close to my humans. I’m also comfortable wearing my harness and walking on a leash. My first walk went really well, if you ask me, and I followed directions and encouragement. I’m doing great with my house routine, too. I eat well, drink plenty of water, and have been learning where I should potty. I’m also learning that my foster family’s resident dogs are pretty nice! I’m playful, curious, friendly, and incredibly sweet. I love being near my people, but I can also settle nearby when they’re busy. I’ve become a confident little girl who enjoys being part of the household. I’m a loving Shiba who will happily accept belly rubs, cuddles, and plenty of affection. I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and showing everyone just how special I am. I have a bright future ahead.
