Haven is a 3 year old female cream Shiba Inu. View her Facebook Album.
Hi everyone, my name is now Haven, and I am a 3-year-old, female Shiba Inu. I was the last of my breed living in a PA mill that was shutting down its facility. Unfortunately, it was so hot that other dogs were overheating, and they decided to try to move us before we succumbed to the heat. Shiba HQ is exhausted, overwhelmed, and tired, but they couldn’t let me die in the unbearable heat. But they also have car trouble, so they put a plea for drivers, and in hours, were able to coordinate a 6-hour transport thanks to two amazing volunteers and our PA liaison. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I only had what looked like a belt wrapped around my neck. My foster mom opened my crate to the yard. I was too scared to come out, so she needed to coax me. My legs wobbled, and I was unsure of my surroundings. I sniffed around a bit, then met a couple of dogs. But years of neglect meant I was quickly scooped away to wash years of filth from my fur. I had no idea what was happening in the shower, but I leaned into my foster mom and let her shampoo my fur and trim my nails. Once I was clean, I zoomed about the yard with the other dogs. I even shook my tail and gave my foster mom fleeting kisses before running off. I really want to trust people, and I come to my foster mom when she calls me in a high-pitched voice, but I always get scared when I get close, so I run away and come back. We have worked out a strategy where I come into the house when she calls me for food or bedtime. When it is hot, I love to lie under the table in the a/c and play with the other puppies. DC SIR says I am a fearful Shiba, but I am also young and want to trust so bad. They think I will thrive in a loving and patient home!
