Jasper is a 2 year old male red Shiba Inu. View his Facebook Album.
Hi everyone. My new name is Jasper. It’s also a beach-themed name. Jasper is a special beach in Maine with “singing rocks” instead of sand. I’m a 2-year-old male and one of nearly 60 Shibas being rescued from a breeder. Some DC SIR volunteers drove 24 hours nonstop to bring me and 19 other Shibas to safety in this first wave. When we arrived at Shiba HQ, I went into the backyard and enjoyed all the sights and smells. My foster parents picked me up a few days later. I was fine in the car at first, settling in and snuggling under a blanket. But then the roads got windy and curvy, and I threw up. I think those roads would get the best of any dog! When I got home, I explored everything, sniffing around. Then it was time for my first walk. I was not a fan of the leash. I tried to run away from it, and even tried chewing it, but nothing worked. At dinner, I really didn’t have an appetite, but I did accept some boiled chicken. Yum! At bedtime, I decided to sleep on the floor beside my foster parents’ bed. Then I changed my mind and decided I wanted to sleep ON the bed, so I spent the rest of the night snuggled with them. My foster home has three resident dogs, and I’m curious and interested in them. My foster parents say I’m shy and startle easily, but I’m also very curious and brave. When something startles me, I go right back to investigate! They’re already seeing some of my Shiba spunk, especially when I play chase in the yard. I’m learning so much about this new life ahead, and I can’t wait to find my forever home!
