Hi everyone. My new name is Kaiya. That’s a beach in the 30A area of Florida. I’m a 7-year-old female and one of nearly 60 Shibas being rescued from a breeder. Some DC SIR volunteers drove 24 hours nonstop to bring me and 19 other Shibas to safety in this first wave. When we arrived at Shiba HQ, we went into the backyard and I ran and explored everything. When my foster family picked me up later, I was a little nervous. I panted during the first half, but I settled in and fell asleep on my foster mom’s hand for the rest of the ride. When I got home, I was curious and sniffed around. I immediately found the toy bin and pulled out a few toys to play with. They have a good stash! I lean in for pets. We went for our first walk, and I did well. I enjoyed sniffing and exploring the neighborhood. We went on a longer 2-mile walk the next morning. Aren’t you impressed? I met the resident senior Shiba mix, and we are peacefully co-existing. I didn’t have much of an appetite, but I ate later in the evening. It was a busy day. At bedtime, I slept on a dog bed in the living room, but I was anxious. It was a new place with new smells, so I paced around the house for hours. I kept pawing at the glass on the back door. I’ve had a lot of change. My foster mom decided to sleep on the couch next to me, and I felt safe enough to go to sleep. My foster parents say I’m a sweetheart. I’m gentle and very docile, but they can see flashes of my playful personality coming through. I get along with everyone. I just know that I have a bright future ahead!
