Hi everyone! My name is Kiri, and I’m a 2-year-old red female Shiba Inu. I’m one of the 20 Shibas who came in during the second wave of the #60ShibasRescue! Our group was given tree-themed names, and I was named after the kiri tree, also known as the princess tree, a beautiful tree with large, heart-shaped leaves. A DC SIR volunteer picked me up, and I had a very long car ride to Shiba HQ with all of the other Shibas. It was quite a journey, but I made it safely before my foster family picked me up and brought me home. At first, I was pretty good at blending into the background. I wasn’t ready to approach people for pets, but I wasn’t overly scared either. I was mostly watching. Then one day, my foster mom scooped me into her arms, put me on her lap, and gave me a wonderful head massage. Well, let’s just say I was SOLD! After that, I realized I had been missing out! I started pushing the other pups out of the way so I could get my fair share of pets and head massages. Once I discovered how wonderful attention could be, I wanted more! I am a sensitive girl, especially when I hear unfamiliar or sudden noises. Because of that, I think I’d be happiest in a quieter area rather than somewhere with lots of noise and commotion, like a busy city. I also think having friendly dogs around would be wonderful for me. They can help show me family life and give me confidence while I learn that people are safe. I started out quietly, but now you know my secret: underneath that shy exterior is a girl who absolutely loves attention! I’m ready to find a peaceful forever home where I can feel safe and loved with plenty of love and attention.
