Hi everyone! My name is Laurel, and I’m a beautiful 3-year-old female Shiba Inu from the second wave of 20 Shibas rescued as part of the #60ShibasRescue! Our group was given tree-themed names, and I was named after the laurel tree, a slow-growing aromatic evergreen tree. All 20 of us were transported together to Shiba HQ, with DC SIR volunteers making the long journey to bring us to safety. It was quite an adventure, and once I arrived, I had a lot of new things to discover! I’m a high-energy girl who loves to move! I’m still learning how this whole leash-walking thing works, but I’m getting there. Right now, I can walk in circles like I’m making my own little track! I’m sure with some patience and practice, I will figure it all out. I really enjoy being around male dogs and seem to be especially comfortable with them. When it comes to the girls, I can be a little more selective. It’s definitely hit or miss. I also have a funny way of showing excitement. Sometimes I bark because I’m happy and excited about what’s happening! I can be shy at first and may run away when I’m unsure about someone. But once I decide you’re trustworthy, I’ll come back for pets. And there are two things that can absolutely win me over: FOOD and PRAISE! Give me something tasty and tell me what a good girl I am, and you’ll see my confidence grow. I’m energetic, playful, food-motivated, and ready to keep building my confidence. I’m looking for a patient forever family who will give me time to trust, plenty of praise, and lots of opportunities to run, learn, and be the happy Shiba girl I know I can become!
