Hello everyone, my name is now Lilou, which means “Lily” in French. I am a 5-year-old female Shiba Inu-Pomeranian mix. I am tiny at just 14lbs. I was purchased as a puppy, but lost my home with my sister when my dad got deployed. Unfortunately, I was extremely neglected in my new home, and my sister and I were left without food or water for days. Thankfully, advocates worked with DC SIR to rescue us. I was so happy to see people and to leave the trailer park house that had become our prison. I gave the volunteer who drove us to Shiba HQ a kiss, but I was also timid. Once we arrived at Shiba HQ, we were put in harness and got to explore the yard and drink water. We smelled bad and were covered in dirt and fleas, so we went into the shower late at night. I was very scared in the shower and didn’t understand what was happening. I tried to make myself small and disappear behind my sister. My foster mom promised I would feel better, but I was so scared. By 1:30 am, after 2 hours of shampooing, we had a lot fewer fleas, but we were still covered in fleas. Our foster mom put us in a secure area away from the dogs, and we had a nap until morning, when she found a sulfur lime dip – this took a couple of hours and smelled really bad, but oh boy, did it work!!! We were finally flea-free! Once we were clean and dry, we got to meet the other animals at Shiba HQ. Our foster mom gave us really yummy fresh food and boiled chicken toppers. The food was amazing. She cuddled us and said our lives would be so much better now. I realized all the other dogs at Shiba HQ were so happy and trusted the humans, so I did too. Now I follow my foster mom everywhere. She says I’m under her feet all day! I have so much love to give, and I hope to find a home where I am loved deeply and treated kindly – like part of a family!
