Maho is a 3 year old female red Shiba Inu. View her Facebook Album.
Hi everyone! My name is now Maho, and I am named after a beach in St. Maarten. I am a 4-year-old female Shiba Inu and one of nearly 60 Shibas being rescued from a breeding facility. I have lived outside in a run with my sister, Texel, who tested positive for heartworms. Luckily, I tested negative, and I am medically cleared for adoption. I am a shy Shiba,, and DC SIR thinks I would do best in a home with another friendly dog who can show me it is okay to trust people. When I first arrived at Shiba HQ after the long drive, I wasn’t used to wearing a harness and just froze in my spot. After I saw the other dogs moving around, I began to explore the yard as well. I was pretty nervous about approaching the volunteers, but when the other dogs went over to greet them, I came for pets too. I learned to use the dog door fairly quickly, and I have done well with the other dogs and cats there. I can’t walk on a leash, but I did get used to my harness, so I should eventually be able to learn to walk on one. That will take some time. Now I get excited to see my foster mom, and I make airplane ears for her, and I flatten down when she says, “up up,” letting me know she is going to pick me up. I do very well with body handling once I trust you too! I am really getting used to living in a house. I have been sampling all the dog beds, and I absolutely love my food. Sometimes I find small toys lying around the house, and I will grab them and sneak them back to my area. I would love to have a whole big pile of squeaky toys all to myself!?! What a life that would be! DC SIR says I am ready for adoption, so if you have experience with shy or fearful dogs and think you can love me forever (with toys), apply to adopt!
