Neem is a 9 year old female red Shiba Inu. View her Facebook Album.

Hi everyone! My name is Neem, and I’m a 9-year-and-9-month-old red female Shiba Inu. That makes me the oldest Shiba in the second wave of 20 from the #60ShibasRescue. Our group was given tree-themed names, and I was named after the neem tree, an evergreen tree that has been valued for centuries for its traditional remedies for various ailments. A DC SIR volunteer picked me up, and I had a very long car ride to Shiba HQ with some of the other Shibas. It was a long journey, but I arrived safely and was ready to see what this new place was all about. I settled into home life surprisingly quickly and seem to already understand how to be a house Shiba. I’ve discovered that countertops are VERY interesting. The humans keep putting things up there, and I’m pretty sure some of them are snacks! I would happily help myself if only I were tall enough to reach them. Speaking of snack, watch your fingers! When I get excited about a yummy treat, I sometimes forget where the treat ends and your fingers begin. When I first arrived, I was scared when people tried to pick me up, and I’d scream in fear. The humans learned to be extra gentle with me. They started saying “up, up” before carefully lifting me and setting me back down. Now I don’t scream when they pick me up. I may be a senior, but I still have plenty of personality and lots of love to give. What I really hope for now is a forever home where I can enjoy the simple things: a soft bed, good meals, yummy treats, gentle hands, and someone who loves me just as I am. I think every senior deserves to know how wonderful it feels to finally be home.
