Hi everyone, my name is now Normandy, like the beach in France and I am a 12-year-old male Shiba Inu who spent my entire life at a breeder’s facility. I was rescued with the first 20 of 60 Shibas. Before picking us up, DC SIR made sure I was neutered, had a dental, and was fully vetted. I have never known the comfort of being a “house dog,” being doted on, or being someone’s beloved companion. But I am quickly learning just how much life has to offer! I rode up front near the AC during my 13-hour trip to Shiba HQ. When I was finally allowed to explore the yard with the other dogs, I was so happy I shook my tail with joy. I am already leash trained and walk very well on a leash. I didn’t know how to use stairs, though, and practically flew off the deck like Superman! My foster mom has shown me that I don’t need to fly, and I am learning very quickly. I am also discovering soft beds and delicious nutrient-dense food. My fur is dry and dirty, so I will get a bath once my neuter stitches have healed. DC SIR has a wonderful program planned to help get my old bones moving comfortably again, my coat silky, and my mind sharp. I may be 12, but I expect to have some of the best years of my life ahead of me! I have been doing great with dogs of all sizes, males and females, and even the cats at Shiba HQ. I can be startled if you reach for me unexpectedly, so my foster mom says “up, up” before picking me up. Now that I trust her, I greet her with a shaky tail and squinty eyes. I know the younger dogs may get a lot of applications, but I am hoping someone will see the love and appreciation an older dog like me has to give. I have a lot of friends still waiting to be rescued, and I hope our story reminds people that senior dogs deserve the chance to finally know what it means to be a cherished member of a family.
