Hi everyone! My name is Olive, and I’m a 4-year-old red female Shiba Inu. I’m one of the 20 Shibas who came in during the second wave of the #60ShibasRescue, and our group was given tree-themed names. I think Olive suits me pretty well! A DC SIR volunteer picked me up, and I had a very long car ride to Shiba HQ with all of the other Shibas. It was an adventure, and when I finally arrived, I was so happy to get out and run around the yard! I may be a little shy, but that was something you could tell I enjoyed. I’m one of the shyer girls here at Shiba HQ. I usually hang back and don’t often walk right up to people for pets, but when I see the other dogs getting attention, I feel a little braver and will often join in. Having other dogs around gives me confidence! I’m pretty good about using the doggie door on my own when it’s time to come inside for meals or a nap. Other times, I may still need some help because I’m not quite ready to approach people on my own. Sometimes the humans have to catch me, but I’m learning. I’m not terribly fearful. I just need some time, patience, and gentle encouragement to learn that people are safe. I think I’d do best in a home with a friendly dog who can help show me the everything is going to be ok, along with a fenced yard where I can feel comfortable and secure. Having another dog around seems to make everything a little easier for me. I may take some time to warm up, but I’m hoping my future family will be patient and give me the chance to blossom. I’m a sweet girl with so much potential, and I’m looking forward to learning what it’s like to be loved, safe, and part of a family!
