Hi everyone, my name is now Panda Bear, and I was rescued from an abuse case that left me living in a car during one of the hottest summers on record. Another female Shiba made it out with me, but an older Shiba didn't. After the initial call, DC SIR stepped in and had us safely at Shiba HQ in less than 24 hours. DC SIR said we were the skinniest Shibas they had ever taken in. We were walking skeletons. We smelled terrible, and our nails were painfully overgrown. I had every reason not to trust people. Even though my new foster mom offered me boiled chicken, I wouldn't eat it or let her pick me up. Worried I would overheat in the car, she gently covered me with a towel and carried me to the backyard with the other Shiba. I snapped at her because I expected to be hurt. She didn't flinch. She simply told me I would never be hurt again. I explored the yard and went potty, but even though I was emaciated, I still wouldn't touch the chicken. I arrived at Shiba HQ with nothing but a slip lead and collar. Since my foster mom couldn't touch us, we couldn't get baths. Instead, she sat quietly with us for hours, bringing boiled chicken and working nearby until we finally felt safe enough to take treats. By the next morning, I was coming when called and happily hanging out in the kitchen for yummy treats. My foster dad then took me to my foster home, where there were DC SIR alumni and cats. By that evening, I was snuggling with my foster family. I feel so safe now that they've trimmed my nails, and I even cuddle with them on the couch and in bed. DC SIR is concerned for my medical condition and may need to expedite our vet appointment. Can you help me?
