Hi everyone, my name is now Peeta, and I was rescued from a puppy mill in PA. Another all-breed rescue, which has been a liaison to the PA mills, has been working with DC SIR to take in mill dogs. They helped us get vetted and groomed before coming to DC SIR. Some very generous volunteers drove all day to get me and Prim, another release, to Shiba HQ. When we arrived, we got to explore the yard on our own. Soon, we met the other dogs and cats at Shiba HQ, and we got along great with everyone. When my foster mom first came over to pick me up and bring me inside, I crouched in fear, blinked my eyes, and yelped in pain, anticipating being hurt. But I wasn’t getting hurt anymore. She picked me up and brought me into my cozy penned area with Prim. I hid behind Prim, not sure when she was going to hurt me. But soon I found out I wasn’t going to be hurt anymore. I did get a lot of boiled chicken and treats. Once I felt safe, I started greeting everyone with kisses. Even guests who came over would get a waggy tail and kisses from me! I really want to trust people because I absolutely love giving kisses and cuddling with you on the couch. When another volunteer stopped by Shiba HQ after dropping another mill dog off, I felt confident enough to kiss her and press my body up next to her for butt scritches and pets. I am so happy to be in a home! I can’t wait to live my life with a family that loves me and to never fear being hurt again. I do great with all the dogs and cats at Shiba HQ, and DC SIR thinks my fear of being hurt will pass as I have more encounters with friendly people. Could you be my furever home?
