Hi everyone, my name is now Rey! I am a tiny female Shiba Inu born on October 10, 2025. I have lived most of my life in a pet store, watching strangers buy other puppies and having the staff clean my cage, and provide me with food and water. Before that time, I had a mom and siblings, but I was torn from them and shipped off when I was too young. I have never known about homes where I can run free, touch grass, play with toys, snuggle in a soft bed, or fall asleep in my person’s arms. I guess I was too old to keep feeding, so the store reached out to a trusted rescuer who has worked with DC SIR for years. She immediately called DC SIR, but they had to coordinate a transport through four states in under 2 days. Amazingly, DC SIR adopters and volunteers came together, and I left my life in the Pet Store on a Friday morning and arrived at Shiba HQ on Saturday afternoon. My foster mom tried to give me boiled chicken and other treats, but I wouldn’t touch anything. Once I was in the yard, I met Dahlia and felt so much better seeing another dog. Soon, I met 2 more puppies – same size as me but 3 months younger. I was so excited, I did zoomies. The grass felt wonderful, and I ran soooo fast! After meeting all the dogs in the yard, I went inside and had so much fun running on the wood floor and meeting the cats. I have a lot to learn about living with a family in a home – I will need to learn how to use stairs, how to walk on a leash, and the basics of living in a home. I am UTD on medical and will come with a spay contract. DC SIR thinks I will do best in a home with another dog. Follow my journey as I adjust to Shiba HQ and freedom!
