Hi everyone! My name is Tater. I’m a 3-year-old red, male Shiba Inu. My life has changed a lot recently. When my owner passed away, their partner tried very hard to keep caring for me, but it became financially too difficult. She reached out to DC SIR to help me find a new beginning, and that’s how I ended up meeting my foster mom. She picked me up in Virginia, and even though I was a little unsure of everything, I stayed patient and brave during the whole ride home. When we finally reached my foster home, I followed my new foster brother straight into the backyard. I felt so free! I ran and ran, and honestly, I didn’t really want to come inside. But eventually I gave in and explored the house a bit. I don’t mind putting the harness on at all, but walking on a leash is still a little weird for me. If we head in a direction I’m not too sure about, I just apply my brakes. My foster family says we’re going to take it slow and build my confidence step by step. For now, I’m happiest racing around the yard where things feel familiar and fun. Later that day, I was given my first dinner here. It was raw food, which confused me at first. I wasn’t too sure how to pick it up, but I caught on quickly. After that, I discovered the sofa. The sofa is amazing! I stretched out and got cozy. I even watched a movie next to my foster dad. When bedtime came, I curled up and slept all night until morning. I was exhausted from such a big day. I’m still a little skittish because everything is new, but I’m incredibly loving and affectionate once I feel comfortable. If you think your home might be the right place for a sweet guy like me, I’d love for you to apply to adopt me.
