Hello everyone, my name is now Toffee, and I am a 5-year-old male cream Shiba Inu. I have only ever lived in one home with another dog, a cat, and mom and dad. Unfortunately, not everyone in my family wanted to keep me. Apparently, I can be leash reactive to other dogs on walks with my previous mom, and she didn’t want me to be part of the family because of that. DC SIR is told I did great with resident pets and even did great at doggie day care. My only real noted issue was leash walks with other dogs with my mom, because DC SIR was told I didn’t have this issue with my dad. So, DC SIR will need to assess this before I can be considered for adoption, where I would need to go on daily walks with a lot of other dogs around. Let me tell you a bit about myself since arriving at Shiba HQ. I got to explore the yard on my own, and soon met Dahlia and Aureus. I didn’t growl at dogs that had polite greetings, but I did growl at Aureus because he kept trying to get me to play. After a while, I realized he was harmless and ignored them. I have a private room at the front of the house where my dog bed from my home was, so after going out to potty, I always went directly to sit in my bed all day. My foster mom thought that was sad and tried encouraging me to come out – I growled at her – but loved to greet men at the house. She knew I needed time to decompress, and it took days, but I let her take off my harness, and now she can pick me up and cuddle me too! Since she invited me up on the couch, I now always come to cuddle next to her. I need to know that I will be safe and loved, then I can be your very best friend forever!
