Yuhi is a male, red Shiba Inu. View his Facebook Album.

Hi everyone, my name is now Yuhi, and I am a 12-year-old male Shiba Inu. I was surrendered to an MD Shelter because my owners said I snapped at their new puppy. I can’t tell you about my life before the shelter, but like many discarded seniors, I no longer receive the sing-song hellos, the playful pets, or the gentle caress I used to get when young. I was so scared and shaken at the shelter. Thankfully, they have a foster program, and I was able to go home with a Shiba savvy family until DC SIR had space for me. For 2 months, I was doted on like I used to be when I was a puppy. But one of the issues noted was my separation anxiety. I was on quite a few medications to calm me down, & I wore a belly band because of regular accidents. DC SIR was told I had kidney disease, dental issues, separation anxiety, and incontinence. Thankfully, my latest bloodwork shows I do not have progressive kidney disease, but I may have thyroid issues. DC SIR is weaning me off all anxiety medications and focusing on managing root cause issues with a focus on nutrition, the microbiome, and mitochondria. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I growled at the male dog and had numerous accidents through my belly band. But in just a short time, I got along with everyone. I really love all the yummy food my foster mom gives me – I don’t mind my supplements at all when wrapped in boiled chicken. As a matter of fact, I follow her everywhere, hoping to get more goodies. I am really smart and learned the dog door in one afternoon. My foster mom is carrying me out every hour and trying to retrain me to potty outside. Guess what? I have only had 2 accidents since my first day! I have a lot of love to give. Please follow my story for updates, as many of these issues may be resolved soon. I just want to be part of a loving family.
