Hi everyone, my name is now Peppa! I am a 2-year-old red-headed, black-and-tan female Shiba Inu. I was surrendered to a southern VA shelter with my sister, Shio. We were so scared to be in the shelter, and I lost weight because I couldn’t even eat. Thankfully, the shelter found DC SIR, and they scheduled a transport to Shiba HQ within the week. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I previously lived with my sister and cats. The shelter noted I was very skittish and did not know how to walk on a leash. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I got to explore the yard with my sister. We were so happy to run free on the grass. Soon, we met all the dogs and cats at Shiba HQ, and we didn’t growl at anyone. I am braver than my sister and allowed my new foster mom to pick me up to come inside the house. My sister then followed. I was the first to learn the dog door, too! I was too nervous to take treats when I first arrived at Shiba HQ, and I lost a couple of lbs at the shelter in just under 2 weeks. But after seeing how happy all the dogs were, I started to take treats. Now I eat all my raw meals and clean the plate! My sister and I like to eat together – we won’t eat separately, and we will eat out of the same bowl – lol! I get along with everyone at Shiba HQ, but I may growl at other dogs who come near me while I am eating my yummy treats. I don’t mind people, though! DC SIR was told by the shelter that we can’t walk on a leash, and they don’t want to push us too quickly, so they will be trying to leash-walk us on a harness as we get more comfortable, and let you know if we require a backyard until we can learn to leash-walk.
